“A resort girl has a dream.” – Resort Girl
Is it time for you to take a break before something breaks in you, Resort Girl? Women tend to put themselves last, but maybe it’s time to put yourself first.
The noise of modern day life can keep many minds so busy that is not until you find the time to break away that you get a clearer picture of your life, your health, your mind and your spirit.
Reflection is a good thing and most times needs to be done in solitude. Using the beauty of nature as a backdrop is always a good place to reflect.
The Resort Girl motto is to Relax, Reflect and Recharge. Those words came to me during the time of my life transition. It was not until this RG took the time to relax and contemplate where my life was and where it might go, that I became recharged and reborn, my spirit renewed.
I understand that with all of the worldly noise, our daily routines, and things we encounter everyday – it is hard to take time to reflect. Resort Girls, take the time to write your name in the sand. Life is short – live now – live strong – live long and take time to put footprints in the sand… don’t let the opportunity wash away. It could be life changing.
Resort Girls follow their dreams — and thus are followed by rainbows.
To make a dream come true, one must possess many characteristics like courage, confidence, consistency, curiosity and caring. That is who Resort Girls are: spirits who want to make a positive change in this world. Those who believe life is made of rainbows, not dark clouds.
Not that dark clouds are not part of a RG’s life. It is more so that she looks for the rainbow that follows – and they, in turn, follow her. This picture was taken by a new RG friend of Haig Point after a big storm this Saturday. She was a very successful business owner who now spends her time traveling the world and enjoying her retirement. Yes, she is a solo Resort Girl, but that does not hold her back.
Being a RG means having the confidence and smarts to go it alone. This world is an unsafe place, but if you learn the ropes and learn from other RGs, traveling and exploring can be fun and safe. You must be careful, however! There are the confidence tricksters, a term I learned while traveling Asia.
This Resort Girl even learned a few more security tips on this trip. The best tip is if you are going solo, be sure to go to a place that has community – and know that other RGs have gone it alone. Family resorts are one of the best. Singles resorts…well, you know the rest of that statement!
I’ve always stayed at the Marriott on Windward Parkway whenever I’m in Atlanta. It could be considered a corporate and family weekend hotel. They have a great weekend rate, but most of all it is one of only a few American Girl hotels. Now that is a fun young RG concept – taking your doll on a vacation!
The crowd is generally either families or wedding events, a much safer environment for solo Resort Girls who just want to explore a new city.
Being at a deeded timeshare resort was a first for this RG. What appealed to me was that the crowd had been there for years. Many knew each other and the staff knew everyone. It made for a new place to meet other fun RGs, as well as providing a safer environment.
This Resort Girl will miss her morning coffee and breathtaking views from the rooftop deck – thinking about being a part of this community as I made many new RG friends, the staff was excellent, the rooms clean, and the views were amazing. I will always have a mental photo of my RG morning coffee memory – the sweet smell of the salty air mixed with the aroma of roasted coffee beans – that is an RG experience!
This Resort Girl recently encountered Maggie, a legendary Haig haint, which many of you know as a ghost. How and where? As part of the timeshare where I’m staying, all Resort Girls and Guys get a ride on a mystic wooden boat to tour the Calibogue Sound at sunset. So, of course, this RG jumped on board one night. Our intimate group of ten set sail to explore the shores with an entertaining crew and cold brews, not knowing a close encounter with a haint was brewing.
The skies were sunny and the waters calm as we journeyed along the shores but then, we felt a a chill in the air and the skies turned dark. Where was this RG? I was floating in front of another famous lighthouse – the Haig Point Lighthouse. You know it by now as the red striped structure that has been in my view all week long. I was excited to see another one, but this one was smaller and nestled against the shoreline. I learned that it was actually built to be a true beacon for ships on sea by the government long, long ago. The lighthouse has a deep and mixed history… and then there was the legendary Maggie.
This RG noticed the darkening skies – and then the captain said, “You know that lighthouse is haunted?” Well that made sense! It was turning out to be a mystic ride and another passenger may have come on board with us… the ghost from this little lighthouse.
Doing some RG research, it appears that Maggie took her life in the lighthouse. She was the daughter of the owners and tales tell of a deep love affair, ending with Maggie possibly taking her life due to love lost.
There are no pictures of the lighthouse, as all pictures ended up darkened, but as we passed the lighthouse to the Haig Point Marina, my camera, along with the skies, became bright again.
Haig Point is a historic place to visit with many stories told and made there. The Calibogue Sound views are miles wide. Can you image this being your own private dock?
Resort Girls and Guys can rent many rides from Harbour Town. Look at this spectacular catamaran… can you image the wind in your RG hair on this boat?
Just be careful of a chance encounter with a Haig haunt on the seas, similar to what happened to me. Luckily, the views themselves are not scary!
Today this Resort Girl is taking all RGs on a walking tour of the historic Harbour Town in Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. For the past week, this RG has been waking up with her morning coffee and viewing this boldly striped lighthouse. I’ve been ending my evenings high up on a roof top with good cheer, new and old friends – and breathtaking views.
So let’s take a quick stroll to some of the beautiful views of historic Harbour Town.
And now let’s set sail on the waters…
What views could compare to the beauty of the famous Harbour Town in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina as seen from a mile-high roof top? This Resort Girl is lucky to have gotten a room with a view of the Harbour Town via one of my Resort Girl BFFs. So, this week, you will see lots of blogging on the spectacular plantation of Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island.
This trip officially starts my Resort Girl travels. As I sat atop the roof, enjoying a cold one and the beauty surrounding me, life reflections came from the movements of nature and then, these Resort Girl words formed and these photos were clicked:
I will fly like the seagulls, gracefully against the sea breezes
I will glide with pride, like the flag of stars and stripes, with honor high atop the protective lighthouse
I will beam like the lighthouse’s bold beacon, bringing light to those around and those in need
I will soar above the treetops with big and beautiful dreams
I will jump and skip the ropes, finding my own way
I will ride with the tides – the highest of high and lowest of lows – knowing to go with the flow as each will give way to the other
And when the sun sets, I will be at peace.
